Langhe is a district located in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Much of the landscape of this district is characterised by the vines which are nestled amongst the picturesque hills, providing the region’s famous wine. Langhe is known to foodies because of its famed local produce including porcini mushrooms, cheeses and white truffles.
With mountains and rivers traversing the spectacular countryside, nature lovers and fans of the outdoors are in for a treat. The slower pace of life compliments the stunning scenery, and the salt trails left by merchants of yesteryear carrying salt from the Ligurian Sea add a unique quality to the landscape. The towns and villages of Langhe are scattered with castles and towers, proudly elevated amongst the natural landscape. Whether it’s architecture, food, the outdoors, or wine, many consider Langhe to be the jewel in the crown of this northern region.

Our suggestions for that special occasion with your friends and family
Family friendly activities could involve a trip to Alba, considered the capital of Langhe which boasts the impressive Piazza Risorgimento which hosts the Duomo di Alba, a cathedral containing both Romanesque and Gothic features dating back to the early 12th century.
Alba is renowned for its white truffles, so perhaps Italian Special Occasions DMC can help you to combine your family reunion with the famous International Truffle Fair, which takes place in October. The chocolate connoisseurs out there will be pleased to hear Alba is home of the confectionary group Ferrero, makers of Nutella and Ferrero Rocher. For history buffs the F.Eusebio Municipal Museum of Archaeology and Natural Science is well worth a visit.
Langhe is famed for its many castles, and the town of Barolo with the Castello Falletti dating back to the 10th Century is a fine example of the frequent pairing of the culture and history of the area. It is said that the scent of the famous wine (named after the town), is carried from the hills through to the streets. In a reversal of the exodus to the larger towns and cities which took place in the 1950s and 60s, many people from the region have returned to towns such as Barolo to make and produce wine.
A morning spent walking ancient castle walls, followed by lunch in one of the local ristoranti, before a trip to one of the local wineries with a view of the sweeping hills could be the perfect Italian adventure for a group of friends in Langhe. A few days at the Alba music festival during the months of May, June and July could provide an especially memorable experience for a group of friends celebrating a special birthday or anniversary.
