A Sustainable and Exclusive Incentive Retreat in Italy
The Challenge
In autumn 2021, we successfully executed a 10-day incentive retreat for an American client, ensuring a sustainable and Covid-safe experience. The goal was to create a unique, high-end journey that reflected the values of authenticity, seasonality, and a balance between well-known and undiscovered destinations.
The Approach
To meet these objectives, we carefully designed the itinerary around three main pillars:
- Sustainability: Choosing accommodations and transportation with a lower environmental impact.
- Authenticity: Showcasing local culture, food, and heritage.
- Balanced Exploration: Mixing famous destinations with off-the-beaten-path experiences.
The Solution
Rather than staying in Venice, we recommended the nearby town of Mogliano Veneto as a more sustainable option. The group stayed at the historic Villa Condulmer, a venue with a rich past—where Giuseppe Verdi revised La Traviata—and stunning surroundings, including an 18th-century park with monumental trees.
Recognising the overtourism challenges in Venice, we reimagined the group’s experience by exploring the city’s origins via a slow-boat tour along the Sile River and the Venetian Lagoon. Highlights included:
- Visiting the island of Torcello and the ancient Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta.
- A guided tour showcasing Venetian-Byzantine architecture and hidden gems.
- A breathtaking evening boat ride under the starlit sky.
Food was an integral part of the experience. Guests indulged in traditional cicchetti at an authentic Venetian cicchetteria, sampling fresh seafood and regional delicacies in a relaxed, informal setting.
The journey extended beyond Veneto to Lombardy, where we introduced an alternative to Lake Garda—Lake Iseo. This lesser-known gem allowed participants to experience breathtaking landscapes without the crowds. Activities included:
- Exclusive Wine Tasting: A private tour of Berlucchi Winery, the birthplace of Franciacorta Metodo Classico sparkling wine, held inside the historic Palazzo Lana.
- Outdoor Adventures: Hiking and e-biking through pristine nature and charming villages.
To complete the experience, the group enjoyed a serene boat ride on Lake Como during the low season. The tranquillity and natural beauty provided a moment of reflection and relaxation while supporting local communities beyond the peak tourism period.

By the end of the trip, our client’s team had built stronger personal and professional connections, gained a renewed sense of well-being, and left Italy with unforgettable memories.
